Have You

When the soft of your body will no longer be ignored
and the work of your hands is a fine dust slipping through your fingers.
You might be tempted to throw a fit and give up.

But what does this life owe you?

Have you gotten on your hands and knees
whispering the language of the flowers
as a bud unfurls over a series of days?

Have you woken up dew-drunk
on the steps of the temple of sweetgrass
curling towards the warmth of the sunrise?

Have you run your thumb over the skin
of a grain of wheat as it recites the ancient prayers
pressed inside it?
To sew,
To grow,
To mature,
To harvest,
To be ground,
To knead,
To bake,
To be eaten.

Wisdom would say,

“Walk slowly among the greening of your life. Walk until you become intoxicated in the perennial mercy of each day racing to greet you.”

In other words - Wonder is absolutely everything.

And when you die
and your life flashes before your eyes for 7 minutes.
I hope it is outrageously beautiful.
