Flowers In A Pandemic

They told us the garden center was not essential.
Like hell it isn’t!
How else do we own the spring after putting up with another winter?

My garden is rowdy outside the window.
Perennials shrug at my inattention
 and dormant seeds mock me.
Is the sky is somehow bluer?

And even after a late snow squall first up are the irises.
Then the grass softens and soon the dandelion
whispers…

Don’t underestimate me.
