I Will Rise Up
If you want to change your life you are going to have to get honest with how broken your heart is. That brokenness that gets stuck inside you and does not know what to do, especially when all the space you crave opens up in front of you. This unnamed pain will clip your wings and clutch at your voice burning inside your throat-some might call it “your Truth.”
This Truth is dangerous, it flows out of you with tears, rage, anger and hurt. This Truth is brewing, it burns hot with Justice and sets fire to hypocrisy. This Truth is embodied, it is what your body has witnessed and remembers.
Right about now, you might be asking yourself, “what happened to her?” Here is the thing, I am not going to tell you that. There simply isn’t a single event or trauma that is responsible for my recent creative work, rather it is a collection of Truths.
And I know I am not alone. Many of you have walked in the wastelands that I am singing about in my new song Magnolia. I see you and I see what you have witnessed, I am sorry and I am grateful to have crossed paths with you.
So I am wondering, what is your #IWillRiseUp story?
What betrayals, disappointments, failures, grief or death needs to be named? What fire, fierceness, mountain or dragon needs to be slayed? What beauty, recovery, peace or resilience can be painted?
