New Fruit

I need to write this down so I can remember
the syrupy drip of laughter
spilling through flung open doors and windows
lungs canvas-stretched with deep breaths
dirty feet sliding straight into bed
without a bath
offerings of ice cream sundaes
adorned with the newest fruits
here we can go backwards
saying sorry on the blades of grass
staining our knees
better than any prayer could ever accomplish
I need to write this down so I can remember
when the house is quiet
and only my mistakes dwell with me
